From Grinding Paint to Creating Rustic Home Decor

The Birth of Moose and Mountain

As the leaves begin to fall and the crisp autumn air starts to fill the streets, many of us turn our attention to decorating our homes for the upcoming season. But here in Florida, the weather doesn't quite change as drastically as it does in other parts of the country. Instead, we know it's fall when the hickory nuts start hitting our metal roof, signaling the start of a new season.

My name is Carmin and I am the owner of "Moose and Mountain," a small business that specializes in rustic, primitive, and cabin-inspired home decor. I have been married for many years and am the mother of three grown children, including a new grandchild, Calvin, who I hope will one day call me "Nana Hobbes."

Throughout my life, I have held a variety of jobs, including being a stay-at-home mom, secretary, retail associate, preschool assistant, Jazzercise instructor, and medical administrator. I have also been a gig worker for companies like DoorDash, Postmates, and Shipt. I have learned a lot from each experience and have taken the knowledge I gained to apply to my life and my business.

I started "Moose and Mountain" after resigning from my last full-time job. I am not one to sit around and wanted to find ways to bring in additional income for my family. However, the hustle of gig work can be inconsistent and that's when I decided to take on some home projects like removing the outer coating of furniture with a handheld grinder.

My husband and I quickly invested in more tools like a jointer, planer, belt sander, orbital sander, and even a spindle sander. We soon realized that we needed a dust collector and that's when we decided to purchase our first CNC router. We built a large table to put it on and spent a lot of time learning how to use it.

This is just a quick summary of how "Moose and Mountain" came to be. My decorating style is inspired by the Northwoods, cabin, and Lodge themes, with a focus on bears and moose and an extra dose of coziness. I love that I can share my passion for rustic decorating with others and encourage everyone to have fun decorating their homes.

Remember, your home is your haven and it's important to make it a reflection of yourself. So go ahead, take on a new project, try a new tool, and have fun decorating!
